Karel Poborský will take up a new role as team director of the Czech Republic national side in June, having won a record 118 caps for his country.
Retirement plans
The 35-year-old midfielder is expected to retire in the summer having returned to his first club SK Dynamo České Budéjovice after spells at Manchester United FC, SL Benfica, S.S. Lazio and AC Sparta Praha. A beaten finalist at UEFA EURO 96™, Poborský brought the curtain down on his international career ten months ago, but returned to say a farewell to supporters before last month’s UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying game against Germany. His new role will see him assist coach Karel Brückner, with the Czech Republic currently second in UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying Group D, level on points with leaders Germany and third-placed Republic of Ireland.
