Poland name squad to face Russia

Seweryn Gancarczyk and Mariusz Jop have been recalled by Leo Beenhakker as Poland prepare to resume qualifying with a friendly against Russia on 22 August.

Poland coach Leo Beenhakker has selected a 20-man squad for the friendly against Russia in Moscow on 22 August as he prepares for the resumption of UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying.

Jeleń overlooked
Beenhakker has recalled defenders Seweryn Gancarczyk and Mariusz Jop after a year in the international wilderness but there is still no place for Ireneusz Jeleń. The AJ Auxerre forward is therefore likely to be overlooked for September's qualifiers against Portugal and Finland, when Poland will try to maintain their five-point lead in Group A. Beenhakker has also named six reserves: Mariusz Pawełek, Jakub Wawrzyniak, Arkadiusz Głowacki, Maciej Iwański, Przemysław Każmierczak and Marek Saganowski.
