Sweden squad suffering

Sweden are just one of the teams struggling with injuries ahead of Wednesday's qualifiers.

Sweden must travel to Budapest for Wednesday's UEFA EURO 2004™ Group 4 qualifier against Hungary with the fitness of several key players in doubt.

Ljungberg battle
Arsenal FC midfield player Fredrik Ljungberg is still battling an achilles tendon injury and was given two days to recover before joining up with the squad in Gothenburg on Saturday. Meanwhile, Southampton FC midfield player Anders Svensson has struggled through training with a foot injury and Djurgårdens IF pair Kim Källström and goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson are nursing foot and groin injuries respectively.

Tobiasen recall
Ole Tobiasen has been recalled to Denmark's squad for their Group 2 game against Bosnia-Herzegovina. The FC København defender's last game for his country was in October 1998, since when the 27-year-old has twice ruptured his cruciate ligaments, keeping him out of the international set-up. Tobiasen will deputise for VfL Wolfsburg's Thomas Rytter, who sustained a thigh injury in Denmark's 5-2 win against Romania on Saturday and looks unlikely to recover in time to feature in the Parken stadium.

Laursen suspended
One Danish player definitely out is AC Milan's Martin Laursen, whose yellow card in Bucharest - his second of the tournament - earned him a suspension. Brøndby IF defender Per Nielsen has been called up as cover, although coach Morten Olsen is yet to name a replacement for FC Schalke 04 midfield player Christian Poulsen, who injured his fibula against the Romanians.

Ferguson out
Rangers FC captain Barry Ferguson will miss Scotland's Group 5 encounter with Lithuania due to a recurrence of his pelvic injury. Coach Berti Vogts will also be without Steven Thompson, who missed Saturday's 2-1 victory against Iceland through suspension but is now injured - although goalkeeper Robert Douglas will travel despite a slight groin problem.

Cimerotic doubtful
Elsewhere, Slovenia striker Sebastjan Cimerotic is doubtful for the Group 1 fixture against Cyprus after suffering a leg injury. Zlatko Zahovic is likely to move into an attacking role, with Club Brugge KV's Nastja Ceh joining the midfield. Israel's hopes were also dealt a blow when Real Racing Club Santander's Yossi Benayoun was ruled out of Wednesday's Group 1 qualifier against holders France with a broken toe.
