Gravesen goal lifts Denmark

Denmark 1-0 Ukraine Thomas Gravesen's fourth goal for his country secures victory.

Denmark 1-0 Ukraine

Headed winner
The Everton FC midfield player scored the only goal of the game, his fourth for his country, eight minutes before half-time, heading in a left-wing corner from Charlton Athletic FC's Claus Jensen.

Difficult conditions
Heavy rain meant that the playing conditions were tricky for both sides, and it took until the half-hour mark for the players to settle into the game. Clear chances were hard to come by, and Denmark's lead was rarely threatened in the second period.

Ground to make up
Denmark currently lie second in UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifying Group 2 with seven points from four games, three points behind leaders Norway, who they play next on 7 June. Having secured an emphatic 5-2 away win against Romania, Morten Olsen's side suffered a surprise setback as they were defeated 2-0 at home by Bosnia-Herzegovina in their last game, and will be looking to get their qualifying campaign back on track against Norway in Copenhagen.

Ukraine well-placed
Ukraine are also in second place in their section, four points behind leaders Spain in Group 6. However, Leonid Buriak's team are unbeaten, having won one and drawn three of their four matches to date, including the home game with Spain, which finished 2-2. They next meet Armenia in Lviv on 7 June.
