Völler reveals hand

Coach Rudi Völler has named a 23-man squad for Germany's forthcoming UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifiers.

Germany coach Rudi Völler has named a 23-man squad for the friendly against Canada on 1 June and the subsequent UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifying matches away to Scotland and the Faroe Islands.

'Good test'
Germany face Canada in Wolfsburg before the Group 5 matches in Glasgow on 7 June and Tórshavn four days later. Speaking in Frankfurt today, Völler said: "In the two weeks between the end of the Bundesliga and the game in Glasgow I don't want the players to lose their rhythm. Therefore, I am very pleased about the test against Canada."

Quartet missing on Sunday
Missing against Canada will be the FC Bayern München trio of Oliver Kahn, Jens Jeremies and Michael Ballack and 1. FC Kaiserslautern's Miroslav Klose, who all play in the German Cup final in Berlin on Saturday. However, the quartet will join the squad 48 hours later.

Back in
Tobias Rau from VfL Wolfsburg, Marko Rehmer from Hertha BSC Berlin and FC Schalke 04 midfield player Jörg Böhme are back in the squad along with the Bayer 04 Leverkusen duo of Bernd Schneider and Oliver Neuville.

Group leaders
Germany currently lead Group 5 on goal difference from Lithuania and Scotland. All three teams have seven points but Germany have two games in hand on Lithuania and one on Scotland, meaning that victory over Berti Vogts's side would leave them in a commanding position.

Germany squad
Butt, Kahn, Rost, Baumann, Friedrich, Hartmann, Hinkel, Rau, Rehmer, Wörns, Ballack, Böhme, Freier, Frings, Jeremies, Kehl, Ramelow, Schneider, Bobic, Klose, Kuranyi, Lauth, Neuville.
