Arveladze back in Šušak's plans

Ivo Šušak has included Shota Arveladze in his Georgia squad for the qualifier against the Republic of Ireland.

First win
Arveladze walked out on the team on the eve of Georgia's last qualifier against Russia on April 30 after being told to start the match on the bench. The match was Šušak's first in charge after replacing Aleksandr Chivadze, and his side beat Russia 1-0 thanks to a goal from FC Lokomotiv Moskva's Malkhaz Asatiani to record their first win of the qualifying campaign.

Maximum points needed
The result still means that Georgia and Ireland occupy the last two spots of the five-team group with four points each from four matches and both will be eager to collect maximum points if they are to challenge for group honours.

Differences reconciled
Since then, Šušak and Arveladze have reconciled their differences, paving the way for the striker's return. "It has always been an honour to play for Georgia, and if Šušak wants me in the national team I would gladly come back," Arveladze was quoted as saying by local media. The Croatian coach also took the opportunity to recall Derby County FC midfield player Georgi Kinkladze, who missed the Russia match with a knee injury.
