Madrid duo back in French fold

Real Madrid CF's Zinedine Zidane and Claude Makelele have returned to the France squad to face Switzerland.

No debutants
The European champions will travel to the Stade de Genève on 20 August with no new faces among their 20-man selection. However, Real Madrid CF duo Zinedine Zidane and Claude Makelele return after missing the FIFA Confederations Cup in the summer. One player out is Chelsea FC defender William Gallas who has a slight knee injury.

On course
France are set to qualify comfortably for the UEFA EURO 2004™ finals in Portugal next summer. They lead Group 1 with a 100 per cent record from their first five games. They are next in competitive action on 6 September at home against Cyprus, before a trip to Slovenia four days later. They finish with a home tie against Israel on 11 October.
