England's mane man: the fourth lion

England arrived in France on Monday with a 24th squad member – a stuffed toy lion – an unofficial mascot that will roam with the team throughout their stay at UEFA EURO 2016.

The Three Lions? Make that four.

When the England players stepped off the plane that had flown them to UEFA EURO 2016 on Monday, one member of the travelling party did so with an unusual piece of luggage in hand: a stuffed toy lion.

Defender Chris Smalling has seemingly been awarded custody of the squad's unofficial mascot, giving a new twist to the national team's established nickname. Where it appears next, and with whom, is anyone's guess. Yesterday, however, it was certainly one of the 'mane' focuses of attention.
