Romania arrange Lithuania friendly

Anghel Iordanescu's Romania will travel to Lithuania for an international friendly on 30 April.

Similar styles
The Romanian Football Federation (FRF) announced details of the game today after a proposed friendly against Croatia fell through. "We chose Lithuania because of their good recent performances and because their playing style is similar to that of Denmark and Norway - our opponents in the [UEFA] European Championship qualifiers," FRF official Cristian Bivolaru said.

'Friendly offer'
F.Y.R. Macedonia had hoped to play Romania on the same day. A Macedonian Football Union spokesman said: "We received a fax with the offer of a friendly but two days later they [the FRF] informed us they had already arranged a friendly against Lithuania."

Destination Lithuania
The match will take place either in the capital Vilnius or in Kaunas. Romania are in third place in UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifying Group 2 behind Norway and Denmark, the latter having won 5-2 in Bucharest in March. Lithuania are second behind Germany in Group 5.
