Held hands over Malta challenge

Siegfried Held has announced he will leave his post as Malta coach after the final qualifier with Israel.

Siegfried Held has announced that he will step down as coach of Malta after the forthcoming UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifier against Israel in Antalya in Turkey.

Two-year stay
"The qualifying match against Israel on 10 September will be my last match as Malta coach," confirmed Held. The 61-year-old former Federal Republic of Germany international took the post in summer 2001.

Brincat bows out
Meanwhile, Sliema Wanderers FC midfield player Joe Brincat told uefa.com that he is retiring from international football with immediate effect. "My international career is now over and done with," the 33-year old said.

One game to go
Malta lie bottom of Group 1 with no points from seven games, and end their qualifying campaign against Israel.
