Helguson blow for Iceland

Iceland's Heidar Helguson is set to miss next month's qualifier in Germany after damaging knee ligaments.

Iceland striker Heidar Helguson has suffered a knee ligament injury that is likely to rule him out of the crucial UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifying match against Germany in Hamburg on 11 October.

Training injury
The 26-year-old Helguson, who has made 23 international appearances, sustained the injury during training with his club, English first division side Watford FC, and is likely to be out of action for two to three months. However, the full extent of the damage, and the possible need for surgery, will not be known until after a full scan.

Crucial tie
Iceland will also be without midfield player Johannes Karl Gudjónsson for the game against Germany as he is suspended. Iceland lead Group 5 by one point prior to second-placed Germany's match with Scotland on Wednesday.
