Petit accepts support act

Portugal midfield player Petit has pledged full support to his midfield rivals despite playing only 12 minutes so far at the finals.

Hoping for better
The 27-year-old has had to watch as the FC Porto trio of Costinha, Maniche and Deco have taken a full part in propelling Portugal to a semi-final against the Netherlands. However, Petit is hoping they continue their good form, even if it costs him a chance to impress. "They are playing very good football and I hope they play even better on Wednesday," said the SL Benfica man.

'Everyone wins'
Petit's only involvement to date came in the 1-0 group stage win against Spain, when he replaced Luís Figo in the second half. "Of course I want to play," he added. "But they are doing a great job and I am giving them all my support because, if the team wins, everyone wins."

Respect for Dutch
Capped 21 times, Petit is full of respect for the Netherlands, calling them "a great side". He continued: "For us, it is just one more final, after the games against Russia, Spain and England. We are two matches away from achieving something unique for our country and we will do all we can to say thank you to our supporters."
