Santini's men all set

France coach Jacques Santini is without captain Marcel Desailly but his team are ready to face England.

Silvestre steps in
Desailly has not played for the team since injuring his knee in a friendly against Brazil on 20 May. "I am not 100 per cent fit," the 35-year-old explained. He will be replaced by Manchester United FC defender Mikaël Silvestre.

Right-back decision
However, Santini refused to reveal the identity of his right-back. Although Willy Sagnol is the favourite, he may miss out to William Gallas, Desailly's team-mate at Chelsea FC. Gallas had an outstanding Premiership season and has the advantage of having played against many of the England side. "I cannot tell you everything," insisted Santini.

Different reaction
The coach also admitted that France's difficult campaign at the 2002 FIFA World Cup had spurred his team on. "Maybe we were too complacent back then," he said. "The pressure is different for this competition. I think my players will react differently." Yet he urged his players to be wary of their opponents tomorrow. "We will have to be in top shape for this game."

Club connection
Several France players will be up against their club mates - like Arsenal FC's Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira, who will take on Ashley Cole and Sol Campbell. "I feel I am 100 per cent for this game," said Vieira. However, it is Paul Scholes and David Beckham that Zinedine Zidane fears most. "They are both great players," he said.
