Portugal forward Nuno Gomes has returned home after a groin operation in Germany and now faces a race against time to be fit for the UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifier in Belgium on 2 June.
'It went well'
The 30-year-old went under the knife on Monday and his doctor, Ulrike Muschaweck, expects the SL Benfica striker to be back in training in ten days, subject to Nuno Gomes suffering no negative reaction. "His recovery depends on whether he feels any pain because, in that case, he'll need more time to regain full fitness," said the specialist. Nuno Gomes, who has scored three goals in Group A - where Portugal trail leaders Poland by five points with a game in hand - added: "It went well."
