McFadden goal goes down in history

James McFadden's winning goal for Scotland against France is to be commemorated by the Scottish Football Museum at the country's national stadium, Hampden Park.

McFadden will this week unveil a giant photograph of his 64th-minute strike which gave Scotland a 1-0 victory in the UEFA European Championship qualifier at the Parc des Princes on 12 September. The image from the Paris match – the result of which took Scotland top of qualifying Group B for UEFA EURO 2008™ – will be on permanent display at the museum, which is run by the Scottish Football Association. Alex McLeish's team now face matches against Ukraine and Georgia, on Saturday and Wednesday respectively, before they must negotiate the visit of Italy in their final qualifier on 17 November.

'Learn from McFadden'
The 24-year-old McFadden has even earned praise from France coach Raymond Domenech, who is quoted in today's British papers as saying: "What did I learn about my team from the Scotland game? A lot. Perhaps we need to try shooting as soon as we get a sight on goal, like McFadden did. We can play beautifully but we must learn to take risks." Scotland's No9 shot early with his left foot to beat France keeper Mickaël Landreau from 30 metres. He continued his habit of getting important goals with a strike that helped his club side, Everton FC, win in Ukraine against FC Metalist Kharkiv and reach the UEFA Cup group stage.
