Poland 0-3 United States

US delight
Landon Donovan laid on two goals before the break, setting up Carlos Bocanegra and Oguchi Onyewu. Eddie Lewis replaced Donovan in the second half and scored direct from a free-kick as the visitors followed up their 2-0 defeat of another EURO finalist, Sweden, in January.

Donovan does damage
Finland, the Czech Republic and Estonia were all beaten by a variety of Poland lineups in February, but Leo Beenhakker's side found themselves under pressure from the off tonight. Donovan, winning his 99th cap, helped break the deadlock after he was fouled on 12 minutes by Marcin Wasilewski – floating in a free-kick from the left which Fulham FC defender Bocanegra headed in. Jacek Krzynówek and Dariusz Dudka both had efforts from distance but could not force a way through. By contrast, the US were two up ten minutes before half-time as R. Standard de Liège centre-back Onyewu nodded in a Donovan corner.

Third goal
Donovan nearly added to his US record tally of 35 goals early in the second period, beating Poland defender Grzegorz Bronowicki but shooting just wide. Lewis was introduced not long past the hour and within ten minutes had extended the lead, curling in a free-kick from 25 metres. Poland seldom threatened, though Radosław Matusiak did force Tim Howard to punch over. Before opening their UEFA EURO 2008™ campaign against Germany in Klagenfurt on 8 June, Poland have further friendlies against F.Y.R. Macedonia and Denmark.
