Bremen bring in right-back Gebre Selassie

A title winner last season with FC Slovan Liberec, the Czech Republic's Theodor Gebre Selassie wants to follow that up "by playing well" for SV Werder Bremen after signing for the club.

Czech Republic defender Theodor Gebre Selassie has completed a move to SV Werder Bremen following the end of his nation's UEFA EURO 2012 campaign.

The right-back has signed a deal running until June 2016 after leaving Czech champions FC Slovan Liberec for an estimated €2m. Gebre Selassie, 25, played every minute of his side's four matches in Poland and Ukraine as they topped Group A but then lost 1-0 to Portugal in Thursday's quarter-final.

Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf, whose team finished ninth last season, said: "Everyone saw his performances during the EURO. His willingness to go into challenges and his running, and he is an attack-minded defender, those are the things that stood out."

Gebre Selassie, also a Czech title winner in 2007/08 with SK Slavia Praha, added: "The decision to join Werder Bremen is definitely the right one. Werder are a club with a lot of stability and tradition, they always set their goals very high. I want to follow up a successful season with Liberec by playing well for Bremen."
