EURO spirit takes root in Wroclaw

Wroclaw's special UEFA EURO 2012 flowerbed has been formally unveiled two years to the day before the finals commence, while Warsaw now boasts three floral tributes to the tournament.

Mayor Rafał Dutkiewicz has officially opened Wroclaw's special UEFA EURO 2012 flowerbed two years to the day before the tournament kicks off, while similar floral wonders can now be viewed in Warsaw.

The unveiling of Wroclaw's flowerbed, close to the Bolesław Chrobry monument on the city's iconic Swidnicka Street, brought tourists and locals out in numbers, with mayor Dutkiewicz saying cheerfully: "I believe the people of Wroclaw will be making similar flowerbeds in their own gardens. Even so, we are going to be planting more flowerbeds like these in other parts of the city."

Three similar flowerbeds depicting the UEFA EURO 2012 bloom logo are now on show in Warsaw; one on the main road to the airport, one in the heart of the city and a third on the banks of the River Vistula. There was no ceremony to mark their unveiling due to flooding in the city. Poznan will unveil its flowerbed on Friday, while the remaining Polish host city, Gdansk, will not have one.
