Toulouse begins process of recruiting volunteers

There is still well over 18 months to go but Toulouse has got the ball rolling on sourcing help from the public ahead of welcoming the many visitors expected at UEFA EURO 2016.

A week after the first general information meeting on the hosting of UEFA EURO 2016 in Toulouse, the city council organised another gathering on Thursday, at the Maison des Associations, to discuss volunteering during the tournament.

The national volunteer programme for UEFA EURO 2016 will be launched by the French Football Federation (FFF) in June 2015, but the host cities will also need volunteers at local level, to make the link with the general public and ensure the best possible welcome for the many foreign visitors expected.

The city council's aim was to bring together as many of Toulouse's residents who want to get involved in the organisation of UEFA EURO 2016 as possible – especially the four matches that take place in the city. More than 60 people attended the meeting and discovered the steps necessary to becoming a volunteer at the tournament.

Frédéric Arrou, in charge of volunteer recruitment for the city council, was delighted with the level of interaction in the question-and-answer session. Having received information on the requirements for volunteers, interested members of the public were invited to leave their details, indicating their skills and experience – several positions will require specific profiles.

More information will be provided to the people of Toulouse via social media as the programme continues, enabling even those who could not make it to the meeting to follow the process through to the final selection. Further details are available (in French) at www.toulouse.fr.

Next Thursday, Toulouse city council hosts its third and final public meeting on the organisation of UEFA EURO 2016, which will focus on transport during the tournament.
