No Carew for Norway

John Carew is absent from the Norway squad for the final Group 2 qualifier against Luxembourg on 11 October.

'Private reasons'
Solskjær will be missing until December after knee surgery last week but in Carew's case, he has said that he will not play for "private reasons". In their absence, coach Nils Johan Semb has called up Rosenborg BK striker Harald Martin Brattbakk and Sigurd Rushfeldt of FK Austria Wien.

Clash with Riise
Carew, who is on loan at AS Roma from Valencia CF, was sent home during preparations for the friendly against Portugal last month after fighting with team-mate John Arne Riise.

Semb disappointed
Semb said he had not managed to get in touch with Carew, adding that he refused to speak to a player through his agent. "It is a pity really, John would have been in the squad based on his sporting capacity and skills," said Semb. Carew has said that he wants to concentrate on establishing himself at Roma.

Hopes alive
Norway are fourth in Group 2 but can still secure second place and a play-off berth if they beat Luxembourg and Bosnia-Herzegovina fail to beat Denmark in the day's other game.
