Mestalla chosen for crunch tie

Valencia's Mestalla stadium will stage the UEFA EURO 2004™ play-off first leg between Spain and Norway.

Valencia CF's Mestalla stadium will be the venue for the forthcoming UEFA EURO 2004™ first-leg match between Spain and Norway, the Spanish Football Federation announced today.

Last chance
Spain welcome the Norwegians on 15 November, with the return to follow in Oslo on 19 November. The winner of the two-legged tie will progress to the finals in Portugal next summer.

Spanish fortress
The 55,000-seater Mestalla has proved to be a formidable ground for visiting nations. Of the 28 international fixtures played, Spain have lost just five times and been victors on 17 occasions. Spain's last outing in Valencia ended with a rousing 4-0 win against Austria in September 2001.
