Portugal missing Under-21 stars

Portugal have named a weakened 18-man squad to face Greece and Kuwait, but Nuno Gomes returns.

Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has named an 18-man squad for Portugal's friendly internationals at home to Greece on 15 November and Kuwait four days later.

Eye on U21s
With an eye on the UEFA European Under-21 Championship play-off against France on 15 and 18 November, Scolari has omitted the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United FC and Hélder Postiga of Tottenham Hotspur FC from the senior party.

Nuno Gomes back
However, striker Nuno Gomes returns to the squad after five months out injured and there are recalls for his SL Benfica colleague Petit and Marco Caneira. As hosts, Portugal have qualified automatically for UEFA EURO 2004™ next summer.

Portugal squad
Ricardo, Quim, Miguel, Jorge Andrade, Fernando Couto, Beto, Rui Jorge, Marco Caneira, Rui Costa, Luís Figo, Petit, Costinha, Deco, Rogério Matias, Simão Sabrosa, Nuno Gomes, Luís Boa Morte, Pauleta.
