UEFA is to investigate allegations that Wales winger Ryan Giggs elbowed a Russian opponent during Saturday's UEFA EURO 2004™ play-off first leg in Moscow.
European football's governing body said that it would study video evidence before deciding whether any action was necessary. At this stage, no video evidence has been made available for study. Giggs, who plays for Manchester United FC, is alleged to have elbowed Russia defender Vadim Evseev in the face midway through the second half of the game.
Saturday's match ended in a goalless draw. The return leg takes place in Cardiff on Wednesday, with the winners qualifying for next summer's UEFA European Championship final round in Portugal.
