Wigan Athletic FC defender Gary Caldwell will miss Scotland's opening UEFA EURO 2012 qualifiers, away to Lithuania on 3 September and at home to Liechtenstein four days later, after undergoing surgery to resolve a hip problem. Scotland manager Craig Levein said: "It's a big blow because Gary is one of our most experienced players. I wasn't aware he required surgery but I certainly wish him a speedy recovery."
