Petrović replaces Antić as Serbia coach

The Football Association of Serbia has appointed Vladimir Petrović as national coach after deciding to part company with Radomir Antić two games into their UEFA EURO 2012 qualifiers.

Vladimir Petrović has replaced Radomir Antić as Serbia coach with immediate effect.

"Antić has four matches of his FIFA suspension remaining," Football Association of Serbia (FSS) president Tomislav Karadžić said. "We played the first two EURO 2012 qualifiers without him and we're not satisfied with this approach. Also, we're not happy with our results in 2010 and we decided to make a change to improve in the future."

Serbia have collected four points in two outings in Group C, beating the Faroe Islands 3-0 and drawing 1-1 at home to Slovenia. Petrović, who arrives from Romanian side FC Timişoara where he was only appointed in June, is to sign a contract running for the rest of the UEFA EURO 2012 campaign and will be officially unveiled on Friday.

A former FK Crvena Zvezda, Arsenal FC and R. Standard de Liège midfielder, the 55-year-old's coaching CV includes Serbia and Montenegro Under-21s, the Chinese national team and two spells at Crvena Zvezda. Antić, 62, was appointed in August 2008 and led Serbia to the FIFA World Cup this summer, though they finished bottom of their group.
