Pasulko takes Moldova job

Viktor Pasulko is the new coach of Moldova after signing a four-year contract.

Viktor Pasulko is the new coach of Moldova after signing a four-year contract with the Moldovan Football Association (FMF).

Time to start winning
“I have agreed to work with Moldovan team and I believe it will be possible for me to work creatively,” the 41-year-old said at a news conference in Chisinau on Tuesday. “I think it is time for Moldova to stop being happy just playing international games and start looking to win things.”

International honours
Pasulko, who has been living in Germany, was a USSR international in the 80s. He earned eight caps for the Soviet team, and helped them to runners-up spot in the 1988 UEFA European Championship. His only international strike came when he scored the third goal in the 3-1 victory over England en route to the final.

German experience
At club level, Pasulko helped FC Spartak Moscow to the title in 1987 and 1989 before moving to play in Germany. After gaining some coaching experience, Pasulko started work for German-based marketing company Hunlein & Shtyn Sportmanagement. The company will now be responsible for promoting and attracting investment into Moldovan football after agreeing a deal with the FMF.

Hard group
Moldova are hoping Pasulko will guide them to success in EURO 2004™ qualifying but they have been drawn in possibly the hardest section. Pasulko’s side are in Group Three, and will have to take on the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Austria and Belarus.
