With a fortnight to go until the main event, the UEFA EURO 2012 Follow the Trophy tour made a three-day stop in the Ukrainian city of Lviv.
The trophy started on its journey around Lviv at the city hall where it was unveiled to the press and local authorities. The mayor, Andriy Sadovyi, was delighted that the "people of Lviv have the chance to see this fantastic trophy with their own eyes" and he looked forward with excitement to the start of the EURO. "God's mercy and the hard work of all our citizens has produced the results – UEFA EURO 2012 will come to Lviv very soon."
The Henri Delaunay Cup was then shown to hundreds of people who had gathered at the doors of the city hall to see one of the most coveted trophies in European football. There was a huge ovation as the former FC Karpaty Lviv players and Friends of EURO, Stepan Yurchyshyn and Igor Kulchytskiy, emerged from the building on to the Ploscha Rynok (Market Square) with the trophy in their hands.
The trophy was transported through the city in a colourful convoy which featured honorary guests, EURO mascots Slavek and Slavko, an orchestra and fans. The parade ended on Freedom Avenue, where it went on public display in front of the impressive Lviv opera theatre.
