There is a nice atmosphere surrounding the Danish camp in Kolobrzeg, with the whole party aware that the team can only surprise. With a slice of luck, they might just do that.
We all know it; all 50 of the reporters here talk about it; Danish coach Morten Olsen says it as well. Up against Portugal, Germany and the Netherlands, Denmark are the undoubted underdogs in Group B. That, though, might just suit us. We all had the same mindset 20 years ago when we upset the odds to win the 1992 UEFA European Championship in Sweden.
This approach has helped to ensure a very calm atmosphere among everyone involved in the Danish camp, with expectations not extending beyond a desire to see the players perform to their best. There is no pressure on the team and that is just the way they like it; being the underdogs and hoping to surprise everyone. "Everybody needs a little luck, perhaps we just need it a little more than others," said Olsen.
There is no doubt, however, that Denmark must also seek their own luck. We do not have stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Robin van Persie and Mario Gomez, but as a team we might just be able to perform above ourselves. Just like all those years ago in Sweden, this is the Danes' chance – they must believe in miracles.
