Bendtner ready to do what it takes

Buoyed by his two goals against Portugal, Nicklas Bendtner is preparing to summon up all his strength to ensure the victory over Germany that will guarantee Denmark's progress.

Only victory against Germany on Sunday will guarantee Denmark's place in the UEFA EURO 2012 quarter-finals, and Nicklas Bendtner is ready to do everything in his power to make it happen.

"It's always nice to know you still have a chance in a tournament but if we lose that game then we're out," the Danish striker told UEFA.com. "You can expect us to do everything we can just to get a positive result."

The 24-year-old marked his 50th cap with two goals on Wednesday as Denmark came from two down to pull it back to 2-2 – only for Silvestre Varela's 87th-minute thunderbolt to deny them an invaluable point. "All 11 of us fought hard to get back into the game," he said. "Things looked good and it was a fantastic feeling to score the equaliser. In the end, there might be some people out there who are disappointed but we did everything we could."

Bendtner believes that commitment and effort will serve Morten Olsen's men well against Germany at the Arena Lviv, when a draw may be enough if Portugal lose to the Netherlands. "We knew we would be the underdogs when the draw was made but we don't want to focus on that now," said the 24-year-old. "We have put in two great performances – we have done very well and that's something we can develop further. A good game for the full 90 minutes against Germany and we will get a good result."

With Germany on six points and both Denmark and Portugal on three, Group B is still wide open; even point-less Netherlands can advance if results go their way. Bendtner hopes his side leave nothing to chance, however. "We'll be in the quarter-finals if we beat Germany," he said. "It's nice to know that we still have a chance and that we're still masters of our own destiny."
