Pressure on hosts - Van Nistelrooij

Netherlands striker Ruud van Nistelrooij believes the pressure will be on Portugal when the sides meet in their UEFA EURO 2004™ semi-final.

'Great challenge'
The Dutch won through to the last four after beating Sweden 5-4 on penalties after a goalless draw in Faro-Loulé and Van Nistelrooij, who converted his side's first penalty, said: "Playing the semi-final against the home team, that's a great challenge for every team.

Pressure
"I think the pressure will be on Portugal - they are the home nation and everybody expects them to win it now. Playing Portugal in Portugal will be a tough task but we've faced tough tasks so far and hopefully we can do it on Wednesday."

Tight game
Reflecting on the 120 minutes against Sweden, Van Nistelrooij - who was voted Carlsberg Man of the Match - said: "A draw was quite fair if you look at the game - it was a tight game, we had chances and they had chances. We hit the post and they hit the crossbar and the post right at the end.

Tried to attack
"We were lucky then but I think we were the team who tried to attack most so if you look at it that way we deserved to win. We played well and showed great character to go through. The group stages weren't very easy for us but now we are here and in the semis and hopefully we can go all the way."
