Striker Ruud van Nistelrooij, with four strikes so far, has the chance to equal a Netherlands record of five goals in a UEFA European Championship at the Estádio José Alvalade. Marco van Basten in 1988 and Patrick Kluivert in 2000 both achieved this feat.
Bergkamp record
Meanwhile, midfield player Phillip Cocu and goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar are chasing a European Championship appearances record, set by Dennis Bergkamp. The striker played 13 EURO matches, featuring in the tournaments in 1992, 1996 and 2000. Cocu and Van der Sar are taking part in their third EURO, and have played 12 games so far.
