Ecuador 3-0 Bulgaria
An under-strength Bulgaria were comprehensively beaten by 2002 FIFA World Cup contenders Ecuador in a friendly played at Giants stadium, New York.
Bulgaria arrived in the United States with just 16 players and without six key players. The European team went behind in the 24th minute after a fine shot from Ivan Kaviedes beat goalkeeper Zdravko Zdravkov. Bulgaria tried hard to find an equaliser and Martin Petrov was unlucky minutes later when his free-kick hit the post.
Kaviedes hits two
Ecuador were the stronger side after the interval though and showed why they have qualified for Korea/Japan this summer. Bulgarian coach Plamen Markov made five changes but the revamped team could do little to contain their opponents. Six minutes after the break, Kaviedes crossed for unmarked Carlos Tenorio to head home. The third came nine minutes from time, the influential Kaviedes scoring his second.
