Yuri Krasnozhan has become the 13th coach of the Kazakhstan national team, with the 50-year-old Russian replacing Czech specialist Miroslav Beránek at the helm.
Krasnozhan has signed a two-year contract with the option of an extension, having already struck up a relationship with the Football Federation of Kazakhstan (KFF), visiting the organisation in March 2013 and attending the Kazakh Super Cup game.
"This offer appealed to me because I know the KFF board," Krasnozhan said. "I see how eager they are to develop football in Kazakhstan. I hope people will have no cause to criticise our work. I have seen the team's last few matches and know a bit about the players. We already have a plan for the months ahead."
A former defender cum midfielder, Krasnozhan played for PFC Spartak Nalchik in the 1980s, returning to the club as reserve and assistant coach before taking sole command from 2004–10. He was later in charge of FC Lokomotiv Moskva, FC Kuban Krasnodar, FC Anji Makhachkala and FC Terek Grozny, and also ran the Russia B team from 2011–12.
