Boshko Djurovski has been dismissed as coach of FYR Macedonia, with his side having won just one of their opening five games in UEFA EURO 2016 qualification.

The Football Federation of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FFM) executive board held a special meeting on Tuesday to discuss the national team's disappointing run, and concluded that the 2-1 home defeat by Belarus on 27 March would be the 53-year-old Djurovski's last match in charge. FYR Macedonia lie second from bottom in Group C, 12 points adrift of leaders Slovakia, with only a 3-2 victory over Luxembourg to show for their efforts.

"The decision to terminate the contract was based on our and our fans' expectations of better results in the ongoing qualifying campaign," said an FFM statement. "The results achieved on the pitch are the only important criteria for success. Our national team have had a sequence of bad results, which inevitably leads to changes."

Djurovski was appointed FYR Macedonia coach in November 2013 following a miserable 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying attempt, in which the side finished bottom of their section. The former FK Crvena zvezda and Servette FC defender, who was capped by Yugoslavia and FYR Macedonia, failed to make a significant impact, winning just two of his 11 games at the helm.

The FFM is yet to announce Djurovski's successor. FYR Macedonia resume their Group C challenge away to Slovakia on 14 June.
