No caps? No worries - long shots for EURO 2016

UEFA EURO 2016 is drawing closer but the squads are not set in stone; UEFA.com's correspondents suggest some uncapped players who could yet make Le Rendez-Vous.

UEFA EURO 2016 is 135days away but there is still a chance for some uncapped players to make it into their national-team squads for the finals in France. UEFA.com highlights some of the fringe options.

England: Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur)
With Manchester United's Luke Shaw recovering from a broken leg, there is a vacancy for someone to provide competition for left-back Leighton Baines. England manager Roy Hodgson has cast his net wide but has yet to give 25-year-old Rose a game – though he has been called up to past squads. Converted from a winger since his Under-21 national-team days, Rose earns high praise from his old Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp: "He is a fantastic raiding left-back. He is quick, he's strong."

France: N'Golo Kanté (Leicester City)
One of Leicester's most impressive performers during their surprise rise to the top of the English Premier League, manager Claudio Ranieri says of the 24-year-old central midfielder: "What he does is huge. He recovers an uncountable number of balls and he is pretty unstoppable when he accelerates." Signed from Caen last July after working his way up from France's fifth tier, Kanté's form may be too good for Les Bleus boss Didier Deschamps to ignore.

Italy: Leonardo Pavoletti (Genoa)
Striker Pavoletti has netted ten goals in 14 Serie A outings with Genoa this term, his coach Gian Piero Gasperini saying: "He gives us goals but also hard work and enthusiasm – I hope he can do the same for the national team." The 27-year-old former Sassuolo hitman would not complain if the chance came his way. "I was dreaming of a place in the national team even when I was playing in Serie B," he said. "I would be stupid not to want it now."

Portugal: Renato Sanches (Benfica)
Teenager Sanches only made his senior debut for the Eagles in October but has been a sensation, with Benfica beaten in just one of his 17 matches – having lost six of the 14 he did not play in. "I know I still have to develop, I'm only 18," the central midfielder said. "With time and the help of my team-mates, I will get better." However, he is doing well enough at the moment to appear on Portugal coach Fernando Santos's radar, even if he has yet to feature for the U21s.

Russia: Alan Kasaev (Lokomotiv Moskva)
The 29-year-old former Rubin man's time to shine may have come, though Kasaev has figured in previous Russia squads under Dick Advocaat, Fabio Capello and now Leonid Slutski. The quick and skilful left-winger faces strong competition from Yuri Zhirkov, Dmitri Kombarov and Oleg Shatov yet believes opportunity could be about to knock, saying: "I hope there's still a chance for me. Anything is possible."

Spain: Saúl Ñiguez (Atlético Madrid)
Vicente del Bosque is not a coach given to changing personnel too often, but he has said he admires the industrious 21-year-old, noting: "Saúl covers a lot of ground and is a real team player." The versatile midfielder is the most likely uncapped player to squeeze into the holders' UEFA EURO 2016 squad: he represents a rare back-up option for Sergio Busquets in the holding role yet also offers a lot in attack, having scored five for Atlético this campaign.

Ukraine: Vitaliy Buyalskiy (Dynamo Kyiv)
"Buyalskiy scores important goals but first and foremost he plays for the team," says Dynamo coach Serhiy Rebrov of the 23-year-old midfielder, who has represented Ukraine at all age levels and is now coming into his own with Dynamo. A title winner last term after a loan spell at Hoverla Uzhhorod, Buyalskiy has registered in this season's UEFA Champions League and is thinking big: "It is all down to me – if I play well, I will get the call."
