UEFA EURO 2016 has got the world talking – and this certainly goes for Twitter.
In total, around 45 million tweets were shared about the finals during the group stage, an average of more than a million for each of the 36 matches so far. With the knockout games starting today and running for the next fortnight, those numbers can only increase.
Perhaps appropriately, many people's man of the tournament so far, Dimitri Payet, has led the way in the conversation, trumping even Cristiano Ronaldo especially when he provided the most talked-about moment so far, his stunning late winner in hosts France's opening fixture against Romania.
UEFA.com counts down the most tweeted-about matches, teams and moments so far, produces an XI of the players that generated the highest interest and gives you the hashtags to join in the round of 16 conversation over the next three days.
