Slovenia confirm Italy friendly

Slovenia are set to meet Italy in a friendly match in Trieste on 21 August.

Slovenia will meet Italy in a friendly match on 21 August as they prepare for their respective EURO 2004™ qualification campaigns.

Trieste showdown
The general secretary of the Football Association of Slovenia (NZS), Dane Jost, announced that the match will be played at the Nereo Rocco stadium in Trieste on the Italian/Slovenian border. Slovenia's Under-21 side are in action the night before their senior counterparts as they take on Croatia in Ljubljana.

Maltese opener
Slovenia have been drawn in EURO 2004™ qualifying Group 1 along with Cyprus, France, Israel and Malta, and play the Maltese at home in their opening fixture on 7 September. Italy, drawn in Group 9, must negotiate a path past Yugoslavia, Finland, Wales and Azerbaijan if they are to reach the finals in Portugal.
