Loose names Liechtenstein party

Liechtenstein coach Ralf Loose has named an 18-man squad for the trip to the Faroe Islands.

Liechtenstein coach Ralf Loose has named an 18-man squad for the 21 August friendly meeting with the Faroe Islands.

Missing trio
FC Vaduz, the country's leading club, provides eight players, while four USV Eschen regulars are in the party. The squad is missing Frédéric Gigon, who recently got married, and injured midfield duo Patrik Hefti and Mario Wolfinger.

'Starting from zero'
Loose is aware of the task ahead of him with EURO 2004™ qualifying looming large, although morale has been boosted by draws against Northern Ireland and Luxembourg in Liechtenstein's last two outings. "These are positive results but we cannot forget the summer break," he said. "Once again we are starting from zero for qualifying.

Macedonians next
"The Faroes Islands are a much more experienced team and we expect tough playing conditions there, like rain and wind, but I hope that the players will show a necessary readiness for the first qualifying match against [F.Y.R.] Macedonia in September," Loose said. England, Turkey and Slovakia complete qualifying Group 7.

Liechtenstein squad
Heeb, Jehle, Hasler, Nigg, Ospelt, Ritter, Stocklasa, Zech, M Beck, Andreas, Stocklasa, Telser, T Beck, Büchel, Burgmeier, D'Elia, Frick, Nigg.
