Yugoslavia win in Sarajevo

Bosnia-Herzegovina 0-2 Yugoslavia Mladen Krstajic and Darko Kovacevic earn an away win.

Bosnia-Herzegovina 0-2 Yugoslavia
First-half goals from Mladen Krstajic and Darko Kovacevic earned Yugoslavia a win against Bosnia-Herzegovina in a friendly international played under heavy security tonight in Sarajevo.

Familiar names missing
Yugoslavia, missing several familiar names, dominated from the outset but Kovacevic, S.S. Lazio's Dejan Stankovic and Savo Milosevic of RCD Espanyol missed several clear chances.

Lead doubled
However, the visitors went ahead after SV Werder Bremen defender Krstajic headed in a 34th-minute Sinisa Mihajlovic free-kick. Real Sociedad striker Kovacevic doubled the score in the 42nd minute after a defensive blunder left him unmarked with the ball eight metres from the goal and he blasted it into the net.

Historic encounter
The game, a warm-up for the EURO 2004™ qualifiers starting next month, was their first official international since the former Yugoslavia fell apart in 1991. The sides did previously meet in the Millennium Cup in India in January 2001.
