Midfield pair get Czech call

The Czech Republic have recalled in-form duo Jirí Jarošík and Václav Koloušek to their squad.

The Czech Republic have recalled midfield duo Jirí Jarošík and Václav Koloušek to their squad to face Yugoslavia in a friendly next month.

Moldova waiting
Although the Czechs do not start playing their EURO 2004™ qualifiers until 12 October, when they face Moldova, the 6 September game against Yugoslavia at Prague's Letná stadium will be a vital warm-up for their Group 6 campaign. The other teams in their EURO 2004™ group are Austria, Belarus and the Netherlands.

Great form
Jarošík was in great form for AC Sparta Praha last night as they fought in vain for a place in the UEFA Champions League first group stage. He scored two goals as Sparta beat KRC Genk 4-2, to draw the tie 4-4, only to go out courtesy of the away goals rule. Koloušek has been cleared to play again after a wrangle over his move from FC Slovan Liberec to Salernitana Sport.

Cerný chance
Czech coach Karel Bruckner has also included goalkeeper Radek Cerný in his squad for the first time, after some excellent performances for SK Slavia Praha. Cerný, who played two games under Jozef Chovanec two years ago, will replace Martin Vaniak from SK Sigma Olomouc, who was omitted this time as well as Bayer O4 Leverkusen midfield player Jan Simák.
