Northern Ireland draw a blank

Northern Ireland 0-1 Uruguay Fabian Estoyanoff's goal won the day as the European side started a brief friendly tour of the United States.

Northern Ireland 0-1 Uruguay

Magnificent strike
Estoyanoff's magnificent 30-metre strike in the 33rd minute proved to be Lawrie Sanchez's side's undoing but goalkeeper Michael Ingham kept an under-strength team in with a fighting chance as their opponents dominated at the Giants stadium in New Jersey.

Early half chances
Steve Jones fashioned two early chances as Northern Ireland made a bright start, but once their opponents scored they rarely looked under pressure. Andrés Scotti was twice denied by Ingham in the second half. Sanchez's men take on Romania in Chicago in the final game of their tour on Friday.
