Norway's Hareide turns to old friend

Norway coach Åge Hareide has named Ola By Rise as his assistant following former No2 Stig Inge Bjørnebye's departure to take charge of IK Start.

Old friends
The 45-year-old By Rise worked under Hareide at Rosenborg BK before taking the top job following the latter's appointment as Norway coach in December 2003. A former international goalkeeper, he parted company with the Trondheim club the following October and has since worked as a radio producer.

Hungary first
By Rise has agreed a contract until the end of the year and will therefore be on the bench for the opening rounds of Norway's UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying campaign. The Scandinavians begin in Hungary on Saturday 2 September before Moldova arrive in Oslo for Norway's first home game the Wednesday after. Turkey and Greece are expected to provide the stiffest opposition in Group C.
