UEFA European Championship holders France are to play world champions Brazil in a friendly match in 2004.
The countries will meet at the Stade de France in Paris on 20 May, one day short of 100 years since the world governing body FIFA was founded in the French capital. Brazil and France are the two top-ranked teams in world football and the game will be important preparation for the French if they qualify for the UEFA EURO 2004™ finals later that summer.
France are top of qualifying Group 1 and looking good for a place in Portugal. They have won all three of their matches to make it nine points from nine. They last faced Brazil in the semi-finals of the FIFA Confederations Cup in the Korean Republic in June 2001, winning 2-1.
