Northern Ireland's David Healy has joined Germany's Lukas Podolski at the top of the UEFA EURO 2008™ scoring chart after recording his second hat-trick of the campaign against Liechtenstein on Saturday.
Having hit three in Northern Ireland's famous 3-2 victory over Spain in September, the Leeds United AFC striker chimed in with another treble as Lawrie Sanchez's side won 4-1 in Liechtenstein. "You don't score many hat-tricks in your career, so to grab two in the same qualifying series is special," said the 27-year-old. "They got men behind the ball in the first half but we broke them down in the second and hopefully we can go on and qualify for a major tournament."
With Podolski failing to register in Germany's 2-1 triumph against the Czech Republic in Prague, Georgia's Shota Arveladze, Croatia's Eduardo da Silva and Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo all found the target - twice in the Manchester United FC winger's case - to keep the pressure on the leading pair. Further down the list, David Villa and Nikola Zigić moved on to four goals with strikes for Spain and Serbia respectively.
