Article body
Turkey 0-0 Ukraine
Fenerbahçe SK goalkeeper Rüstu Reçber was the hero for Turkey as they ground out a goalless draw at home to Ukraine.
Günes experiments
Rüstu twice charged out of his area to deny fleeting Ukrainian attacks when the Turkish defence was caught flat-footed. Turkey coach Senol Günes tried out newcomers Ibrahim Uzulmez and Besiktas JK player Tümer Metin in midfield ahead of their UEFA EURO 2004™ Group 7 qualifier against England on 2 April - but in truth Turkey appeared more balanced once regulars Ümit Davala and Ergün Penbe came off the bench after the break.
Shevchenko silenced
Ukraine were frustrated going forward with Andriy Shevchenko kept quiet throughout but the players can take heart from a solid defensive display with the Group 6 fixture against Spain on 29 March on their minds.
