Security worries over Belgrade tie

Security concerns have been raised with UEFA about the qualifier between Serbia and Montenegro and Wales.

UEFA and the authorities in Serbia and Montenegro are involved in discussions as to whether the country's UEFA EURO 2004™ Group 9 qualifying match against Wales in Belgrade on Wednesday 2 April can go ahead.

Security concerns
European football's governing body said on Monday that the Football Association of Serbia and Montenegro (FSSCG) had raised security concerns about the match in view of the current political situation in the country, where a state of emergency is in force. UEFA has asked for written details of the concerns that have been expressed, and the consultation process has begun.

Staging of the game
"Concerns regarding the staging of the game have been raised with us today," said UEFA communications and public affairs director Mike Lee. "Discussions are now under way with the relevant authorities, and UEFA will make an announcement regarding this fixture on Tuesday."
