Jacek Krzynówek scored the only goal of the game as Poland struggled to overcome Swiss second-tier side FC Schaffhausen in a friendly match in Donaueschingen on Friday evening.

Substitutes combine
The UEFA EURO 2008™ finalists had to wait until 16 minutes from time to open the scoring with the goal coming from veteran left winger Krzynówek, five minutes after he had come on as a substitute. The VfL Wolfsburg player broke the deadlock with a powerful shot following some fine work from another second-half substitute, Wojciech Łobodziński.

Tired players
Coach Leo Beenhakker used 22 players in the match – Poland's first friendly since their arrival in the German town on 19 May – and was pleased with the workout. "We have recently worked to speed up our game and exchange passes faster," he said. "I think our performance in the last 30 minutes was quite good. We defended well and did not lose balls. It was visible that the boys are tired as we have trained hard recently. I am happy and the most important thing is that everything goes according to the plan."

No conclusions
Poland captain Maciej Żurawski stated that they were not worried by the slender margin of victory. "If we had won 7-0 there would have been huge optimism but now it is calm and quiet," he said. "There is no point in drawing conclusions because this was more a training session than a match. I think the next friendlies, against F.Y.R. Macedonia and Albania, will give us a better view on the form of the team."
