UEFA President Michel Platini enjoyed a reunion this week with his old team-mates from the France team that won the 1984 UEFA European Championship on home soil.
Mr Platini - France's captain and leading scorer in the 1984 finals with nine goals, including two hat-tricks - invited members of that outstanding team to UEFA's headquarters in Nyon on Wednesday. They then travelled to Geneva to watch Portugal - whose national team they beat in an epic semi-final 24 years ago - qualify for the UEFA EURO 2008™ quarter-finals by beating the Czech Republic.
Guests in Geneva
Accompanying the UEFA President was the coach of the 1984 side, Michel Hidalgo, together with former colleagues Manuel Amoros, Joel Bats, Bruno Bellone, Philippe Bergeroo, Maxime Bossis, Daniel Bravo, Jean-François Domergue, Luis Fernandez, Bernard Genghini, Bernard Lacombe, Dominique Rocheteau, Albert Rust, Didier Six and Jean Tigana.
