Midfield duo given Turkey chance

Turkey have named Tümer Metin and Serkan Balci in their squad to face Moldova next Wednesday.

Turkey have named Tümer Metin and Serkan Balci in their squad to face Moldova in next Wednesday's friendly.

Duo out
Coach Senol Günes named a 23-man selection in all but is without injured midfield regulars Yildiray Bastürk and Belözoglu. However, their absence means a chance for Tümer and Serkan, of Besiktas JK and Gençlerbirligi SK respectively, to impress again.

Chance arises
Tümer last played for his country at the turn of the year in a friendly against Ukraine. Serkan, meanwhile, won his first two caps at the FIFA Confederations Cup in June having been an established Under-21 international.

English showdown
Turkey are top of UEFA EURO 2004™ Group 7 with 15 points, having played a game more than England who are two points behind. Their remaining two fixtures are against Liechtenstein on 6 September and England on 11 October.

Turkey squad
Hakan, Ergün, Hasan, Ahmet, Ibrahim, Tümer, Ömer, Ibrahim Toraman, Okan, Servet, Gökdeniz, Serkan, Zafer, Fatih, Tuncay, Selçuk, Tugay, Rüştü, Alpay, Okan Buruk, Nihat, Fatih Sonkaya.
