Luxembourg 1-1 Malta
Two goals in a minute ensured it was honours even in this friendly between two of Europe's football minnows tonight.
The VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach midfield player Jeff Strasser put the home side in front from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute only for Stefan Giglio, of Sliema Wanderers FC, to equalise almost immediately. It was always going to be an evenly matched contest in front of 2,000 fans in Esch-Sur-Alzette with both sides at the bottom of their respective UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifying groups.
In Group 1, Malta have taken no points from their seven matches to date, while Luxembourg, in Group 2, have yet to register a goal in their five defeats so far. The Maltese are next in action in a 10 September qualifier against Israel while Luxembourg welcome Bosnia-Herzegovina on the same day, having travelled to Romania three days before.
